If you frequently and endlessly scroll through Instagram *and* you love anything having to do with houses, you may have already come across the Instagram account known as Zillow Gone Wild—although the account was created only two weeks ago, it has since amassed over 440,000 followers. If you’re not already following, you’re in for a treat.
The mastermind behind Zillow Gone Wild is Samir Mezrahi, who also runs the popular KaleSalad Instagram and Twitter accounts. So, how did he go from sharing viral tweets to posting the weirdest and most over-the-top house listings? Mezrahi loves “browsing homes and [he has] been doing it for years,” he tells House Beautiful. Lucky for us, he’s decided to share some of his strangest findings with the (virtual) world.
Followers are encouraged to message links to and screenshots of any listings that might be the right fit for this fantastically strange Instagram account, and Mezrahi makes sure to credit the Instagram user in the caption. If you’re interested in any of these homes, Mezrahi links many of the posts to their coinciding listing on Zillow.com, through the link in Zillow Gone Wild’s Instagram bio.
For its very first post, Zillow Gone Wild chose a Vermont home that appears pretty normal at first glance—that is, until you see the last few photos, which depict a series of decrepit jail cells and bathrooms.

This week, Zillow Gone Wild started a new venture: #ZGWMansionMondays, because this account isn’t solely focused on the bizarre Zillow listings, but also the incredibly grandiose ones too. The mansion that’s pictured in the inaugural Mansion Monday post does have a variety of unique features in its own right: a baseball field and a tennis court, an indoor pool and hot tub, a movie theater room, a horse stable, a sprawling parking garage, a gymnastics room, ski storage, and even a pizza oven.

In one instance, Zillow Gone Wild found the new owners of a home that Mezrahi had recently posted. The home in question boasts colorful 1970s carpets in seemingly every room (not to mention a sideways window). After Instagram user @thejacksonfi bought this time capsule of a house, the whole family did a 70s-style photoshoot in each room before they renovated the interiors. Mezrahi tells us that the new owners reached out to him to post these groovy photos, and their Instagram account subsequently “blew up” after Zillow Gone Wild’s post.

When asked if he’s ever seen any of these abodes in person, Mezrahi shares, “No, but hopefully some time in the future!” And in case its Instagram account wasn’t enough, Zillow Gone Wild also has a Twitter account, complete with witty captions, including the very appropriate “I guess we need to talk about the elephant in the room,” in reference to a table designed to resemble the lower half of an elephant.
There’s even one house that’s actually on fire in its one and only Zillow photo, for reasons unknown to us. It must be a hot commodity!
Some other standout properties posted by Zillow Gone Wild are ones that include an indoor trampoline, an undeniably creepy dungeon-like underground space, patterned wallpaper in every room (count us in!), underwater scuba tunnels, and a toilet that’s located in a very small—and for whatever reason—elevated crevice, high enough to reach the window. And we’d be remiss not to mention the house that would undoubtedly make Tiger King proud.
Clearly, no house is too crazy to be featured on Zillow Gone Wild—and really, the weirder, the better. Happy house hunting!
