WOOSTER The Wayne County Home & Garden Show suffered the same fate as nearly all other events last year, canceling due to COVID-19 restrictions. The longest-running spring show in the area makes a triumphant return this weekend.
Events return:COVID comeback: Wayne and Holmes counties plan for 2021 return of events
Chamber event will take place April 24 and 25
The Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce will host the 30th annual home and garden show on April 24 and 25 at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. The show will open on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission and parking for the event are free.
Some vendors also will find new accommodations as the spring show takes advantage of the fairgrounds’ newest facilities, the event center and the agriculture building. The move will shift the focus of the event from the grandstand area to the south side of the fairgrounds.
‘Excited to use the new building’
“We planned to be in the event center last year,” said Matt Martin, the Wayne County Fair manager. “Everyone is excited to use the new building. The weather won’t have an effect on the indoor vendors. It always seems like we have one good day and one bad day of weather. This eliminates some of that.”
As of Sunday, the weather forecast showed rain showers and mostly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the mid-50s.
Apple Creek Banking Co. is this year’s sponsor
The show, sponsored this year by The Apple Creek Banking Co., consistently welcomes more than 200 exhibitors and 20,000 visitors each year. The chamber developed a plan in conjunction with the Wayne County Health Department to assure that all visitors to the show adhere to proper social distancing and gathering requirements.
“We are excited to be able to bring the event back this year in a safe manner for the local community. The timing is relevant with the increase in home projects. While it may look a little different, the show will still offer a variety of exhibitors,” said Samira Zimmerly, president of the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce, in a news release.
