Children from three local primary schools have helped add a splash of Christmas colour within the entrance of the Scotch Corner Hotel.
Staff invited pupils from Melsonby Methodist School, Brompton on Swale Primary School and Crakehall Primary School to create rainbow decorations for its Christmas tree.
With dozens of entries received, four-year-old Harry from Melsonby Methodist School’s design was chosen as the overall winner.
In addition to seeing his creation adorning the top of the 7ft tree, he received a family ticket to attend the hotel’s Christmas Eve Brunch with Santa event this Thursday.
Scotch Corner Hotel general manager, Tim Snowdon, said: “This year, we decided to invite local schools to help us decorate our Christmas tree. We chose a rainbow theme in recognition of the superb and unstinting work of those working in our NHS, locally and nationally.
“I’d like to thank all the children who entered the competition.
“The response was fantastic and choosing a winning design was incredibly hard.
“We are looking forward to welcoming Harry and his family to the hotel this Thursday, when they will see for themselves our colourful Christmas tree with his decoration topping it off.”
The 91-bedroom Scotch Corner Hotel was built in 1939 on the site of a former coaching inn, The Three Tuns, which was demolished when the Roman road it was situated on was widened to create a dual carriageway.
