With help from Matthew Goodrich of design firm Goodrich and Ave Bradley, global SVP of design at Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, a 1950s scheme in Georgia’s capital has been transformed into a stylish hotel.
Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is celebrating the opening of its exciting new property, The Sylvan Hotel, in the Buckhead neighbourhood of Atlanta.
Mid-century magic in Buckhead
The hotel occupies a large former residential scheme dating from the 1950s, which has been revamped to become a 217-key boutique hotel marrying mid-century period features with modern design. Nature and greenery inspire the concept here, reflecting Atlanta’s nickname of ‘the city in a forest’, and the hotel’s moniker takes its name from the Latin word ‘sylva’, which means ‘forest’. Indeed, this forest motif is recalled throughout the hotel’s decoration, colour palette and style.
Led by Matthew Goodrich of New York City-based studio Goodrich and Ave Bradley, Kimpton’s global SVP of design, the project team worked tirelessly to revamp the property and make it fit for a 21st century hospitality experience. Meanwhile, Soho Myriad Art Consulting helped select the hotel’s carefully curated art collection.
What’s in store at The Sylvan Hotel
Style, sophistication and Southern hospitality abound at The Sylvan Hotel. From the generous lobby living room, complete with a curving glazed stone and tile fireplace, to each of the 217 well-appointed guest rooms, which ooze class and contemporary comforts, both the private and public areas of the hotel have been reworked.
The hotel also incorporates a number of drinks and dining options. The Betty is an atmospheric restaurant space that harks back to a bygone era and serves continental cuisine from executive chef Brandon Chavannes, while outdoor garden hideaway Willow Bar breathes fresh life into flagging guests with its tranquil atmosphere, and St Julep is a livelier space filled with colour and funky furniture.
Guests can also make use of the state-of-the-art fitness and wellness centre, pool, complimentary bike hire, yoga mats, in-house laundry service and more than 4,000 sq ft of meeting and event space during their stay.
