How To Peel Garlic Using A Bowl Of Water

We’re suckers for a good hack; a bathroom hack, a decoration hack, but most pertinently, a kitchen hack and TikTok has been serving us with some of the most life-changing tips recently.

So when it comes to kitchen hacks, we’re looking for anything that makes our cooking process smoother, easier or downright quicker, and this garlic hack does all three…

Garlic is essential to so many of our favourite savoury dishes, but it’s sometimes a pain to prepare. Enter *the* best garlic peeling hack we’ve ever seen (and we’ve seen a few), brought to us by the internet’s favourite, Chrissy Teigen.

This content is imported from TikTok. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Teigen’s company Cravings shared this tip, and the TikTok-verse is going crazy for it, claiming that their “lives are changed.”

What we love even more about this tip is how simple it is! So, without further ado, follow these tips to peel a whole head of garlic in record time:

  • Put a whole head of garlic (unpeeled and untrimmed) in a bowl
  • Fill the bowl halfway up with water
  • Microwave for 30 seconds
  • Take the bulb out and pat dry
  • Chop off the root end of the garlic head
  • Squeeze gently and the unpeeled cloves should pop out

This hack is perfect for those recipes that call for a lot of garlic (think Nigella’s 40 garlic clove chicken) and for prepping ahead of time without the fussy, papery mess that garlic often brings.

    Bravo, Chrissy Teigen, Bravo.
