The Holkham Charitable Foundation is making a significant donation of £30,000 to Homes for Wells.
This will fund the refurbishment of four properties at Northfield Waye, Wells-next-the-Sea, the Earl and Countess of Leicester have recently confirmed
The flats will house local keyworkers and people with a proven connection to the town, many of whom are frontline workers such as the local Lifeboat crew, fire service and healthcare workers.
Homes for Wells, a local community-led affordable housing trust, was given the opportunity to purchase up to nine former social housing flats.
The flats are situated close to the town centre, making them ideally located for work, schools and all other amenities.
Significant funds were needed to make this project happen and so David Fennell, chair of Homes for Wells, submitted a grant application to the Holkham Charitable Foundation.
The grant will pay for the gutting and redecorating of the flats, including new bathroom and kitchen
fittings, decoration, floor coverings, heating systems, garden clearance, fencing and preparations.
All things being well, the plan is for the first residents to move in towards the end of March 2021.
Homes for Wells chair, David Fennell, explained: “Homes for Wells is delighted by the generosity of the Holkham Charitable Foundation.
“Their award will enable us to refurbish the former Flagship homes thoroughly, with new bathrooms and kitchens and fresh decor.
“The support of Lord and Lady Leicester is a great encouragement to our trustees and will directly benefit the Wells key workers and local families who are chosen to be the new tenants.”
Since its launch in 2006 Homes for Wells has brought local volunteers together to create a housing trust that now houses 54 people in local, secure, affordable homes.
There is a waiting list of 42 more families that need the organisation’s help.
Lord Leicester added: “The admirable work being done by David and the team at Homes for Wells is humbling and we are pleased to be able to support them with this donation.
“The estate is inseparable from its local community and our goal is to contribute as much as possible to promote a sustainable local economy for the benefit of all the people who live and work in the area.
“We do this through the recently established Holkham Charitable Foundation.”
The Holkham Charitable Foundation was set up by Lord and Lady Leicester in 2020 with strong ambitions to make a noticeable, positive impact to causes that can be accessed in the local communities and to help disadvantaged groups.
