Mother Nature is throwing the kitchen sink at Chicago, weather-wise, to kick off the work week.
Rain totals have already topped three inches in some parts of the region with another half-inch likely before the deluge tapers off Monday afternoon, according the National Weather Service.

Strong winds, with gusts up to 50 miles per hour, are expected throughout the day, capable of downing tree limbs and sending Halloween decorations airborne, the weather service said.
The winds are also creating high waves on Lake Michigan, with a buoy recording crests above 12 feet near Wilmette Monday morning. A lakeshore flood advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday, prompting the city of Chicago to close portions of the lakefront path between Fullerton Avenue and Ohio Street, and from 47th Street to 51st Street. Access to underpasses at Oak Street, Chicago Avenue and Division Street is also blocked.
Much calmer conditions are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday.
